That’s us! My husband (best friend) and our four little people.

A quick edit: Here’s our newest addition, baby #5. A beautiful boy. We are blessed beyond what I could have ever imagined.

We’re passionate about our faith, our lifestyle (back to basics- homesteader wannabes), and our family.

We don’t live on acreage with the freedom to grow acres of veggies and raise livestock. Some day we might. We pray that we will. But for now, we bloom where we’re planted.

You’ll hear me use that phrase a lot. I think it applies to all families, of all walks of life, in any season in life.

For us that means (and this is certainly not an exhaustive list, but it’ll give you an idea of what we’re about!):

-We do what we legally can in the suburbs to grow our food, preserve it, and source it locally if it’s not something we’re able to raise/grow ourselves (I’m not able to raise chickens. A sad, sad fact for the wannabe homesteader).

-It means we learn skills, many of which are becoming a lost art form in a time when fast is good and cheap is better. We do this so that we know how to provide for ourselves and others in need without depending on too many outside resources. We’re always learning and honing new skills. Anything from sewing, to learning to identify the wild growing foods and medicinal plants that God has put around us, to hunting, to cooking from scratch, to … well, the list goes on. We’re always learning and exploring.

-It means we follow the Depression Era Mantra of “Use it up. Wear it out. Make it do, or do without.”

– While we do our best to live simply, and frugally, and work toward a “someday homestead,” we’re not purists. We don’t intend to be. I believe in doing our best, but also being practical and realistic. That means that you’ll occassionally find a package of boxed mac and cheese in my pantry. Or a Starbucks cup in my van. It doesn’t happen often (partially for budget reasons, but also because I do prefer ‘;;’;;;healthier options *most* of the time), but it does happen. And I’m totally okay with that. So I intend for this blog to be a place where we can share ideas and encouragement, but I will not write posts criticizing, or approve comments criticizing, anyone for the way they choose to feed, nourish, heal, or raise their family.

I hope you’ll click around and get to know us better!
